Adventure at Mechukha is an annual event held at Mechukha (Menchukha) in the West Siang district of the North Eastern State of Arunachal Pradesh - 'The Land of the rising sun' in India. The 5th Adventure@Mechukha event was held from 23-25 November 2017. The event was organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Centre for Cultural Research & Documentation (CCRD), Naharlagu headed by Mrs. Moyir Ribba along with Shri P. D. Sona, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Adventure Zone's Raju Rai was given the responsibility to coordinate paragliding activities which was headed by Vijay Sonam, President, Paragliding Association of Arunachal. For the first time an International Paragliding Accuracy Competition was held along with promotional Tandem Joyride flights. The 3 day Accuracy event saw paragliding pilots from across the country and from the neighboring country of Nepal competing and demonstrating their landing skills. Sanjay Pendurkar of Indus Paragliding was the Event Director and the event was judged by Surain Gurung from Nepal. Along with the trophies for the winners there was also a prize money of ₹ 60,000, 30,000 & 20,000 for the First, Second and Third MEN winners and ₹ 30,000, 20,000 & 10,000 for WOMEN winners respectively. The winners are: WOMEN: 1st - Foram Pandya (India) 2nd - Rupa Devi Karki (India) 3rd - Cheden Bhutia (India) MEN: 1st - Bishal Bdr Chettri (Nepal) 2nd - Narayan Parajuli (Nepal) 3rd - Suresh Thapa (Nepal) The winners were awarded at a grand closing ceremony held on 25th November 2017 by Shri P. D. Sona, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The event was also graced by the Bollywood Actor John Abraham.

TEAM OF CLIMBERS AND PARAGLIDERS WRAP SUCCESSFUL X(Cross) Himalayan International Expedition of Mt TINCHENKHANG(6010 mts) to summit and paraglide. An international team of mountain climbers from South Korea and one paraglider pilot from Sikkim successfully scaled and flew down using a paraglider from Mt Tinchenkhang (West Sikkim) which is at the height of 6010mts on 18th oct 2014. The team was in Sikkim from 10th oct- 27th oct 2014 as part of X(Cross) Himalaya Expedition 2014 led by world renowned alpinist Mr Junghun Park from South Korea. The X-Himalaya expedition 2014 is 1st South Korean attempt to cross the great Himalaya by non motorized means using mountain biking; kayaking; paragliding; climbing and trekking from Pakistan to Sikkim crossing over China; Tibet and Nepal. Sikkim section team members comprised of Captain Mr Junghun Park(South Korea), Mr Deahea Park(South Korea) and one paraglider pilot from Sikkim Mr Raju Rai. The expedition team was accompanied by two members of Seoul Broadcasting System who will be documenting the whole expedition in 6 episodes of 1 hour each. A local pro photographer Mr Praveen Chettri was also part of the team as official photographer of the expedition. During the Sikkim section, the team climbed and paraglide from Mt Tinchenkhang ;did paragliding in Gangtok ;mountain biked, visited dzongu village and other beautiful parts of Sikkim documenting our state natural beauty and adventure activities. The main highlight of the expedition was the successful attempt of paragliding from Mt Tinchenkhang (6010mts) by Mr Jungun Park and Mr Raju Rai; a first in Sikkim and still not yet ascertained in India. They landed at Thangsing Base camp, to much awe and admiration of the locals and tourists who were there. At Gangtok Mr Raju Rai test flew prototype para gliders from Gin Gliders Inc(South Korea) and gave valuable inputs

Sikkim witnessed its first ever hike and fly paragliding adventure expedition. Delhi based Travel Photo Journalist PARVIN SINGH follows a team of paragliders on an expedition to Nepal-Sikkim border in West Sikkim and records how they made their first big leap in the air at 12,000ft. “Well done, you’ve made it!” A group of paragliders- local and international – cheered me as I reach kalijar, showing my tent for the night pitched at 12,000 ft along the Nepal- Sikkim border. It wasn’t an easy task to trek with the professional paragliding pilots, not at least for a non-trekker like me from Delhi,to make that steep ascent in the mountains within a matter af seven hours. Yet the idea to trek to Phoktay Dara from Uttray in sikkim’s West District, upon completion of the first international Paragliding festival in Gangtok, was novel-to witness the pilots take off from an altitude of 12,000-ft and sail over the amazingly laid 360 degree view of Mt Khangchendzonga and Mt Everest, and then see them plunge into the plains of Jorthang, a town on the bank of river Rangeet. Just as the festival got over on November 3, the Sikkim paragliding society’s three important men raju rai, Arjun Rai and Santosh Rai completed all paper formalities and with logistic support from Sikkim tourism Department led an expedition team to reach the highest point along the Nepal-sikkim border. The team comprised of experienced Canadian pilot, James M Orava, expert pilot cum Editor of Cross County Magazine (XC Mag), International free flying magazine - Ed Ewing, Sr instructor, Indus paragliding, Kamsket - Sanjay Pendurkar, Raju Rai, Arjun rai of Sikkim paragliding society and me. We reached Uttarey on November 4 at dusk,after hours of battling with the pot-holed roads,some things adventurous at the start of the trip.
